LimeWire is a free to use peer-to-peer file sharing system for Windows, Mac OS X and other operating systems. It requires Java to run. LimeWire uses the Gnutella network and also the BitTorrent protocol. A free software version and a costly "enhanced" version are both available. The software is developed by Lime Wire, owned by Lime Group. One problem with sharing files in this manner is that viruses and trojan horses are spread more easily. Some references list a 30% infection rate for some downloaded files. LimeWire currently offers a service called "LimeWire Store" which offers songs for 99 cents each. This service is only available in the USA.
